Overview

The skills you need to thrive as a counselor aren’t just learned in a classroom—they’re built through experience. Students of the Master of Arts in Counseling program at CMU Online get to practice with real people, with real needs, all while learning more about the profession. When you get a master’s degree in counseling, you’ll join the ranks of skilled, caring counselors who work every day to help individuals and families face life’s greatest challenges.

You’ll choose a concentration in addiction, clinical mental health, or school counseling, and you’ll get the chance to have real world experiences with clients or students through an internship. Offered in a flexible format, you will take classes online live and asynchronously, making it possible to fit your continuing education into even the most demanding of schedules.

CMU’s Counseling Program is CACREP Accredited.

Counseling testimonial

“The CMU Counseling Program is composed of excellent faculty who have extensive experience in both the professional world and classroom… I now have experience in collaboration, networking, fundraising, chairing, leading, marketing, and advocacy – all important skills for my professional career… The flexibility of a virtual program was one of the deciding factors of why I chose the CMU counseling program. At the time of application, my children were 10-months and 2.5-years old. Knowing I could attend classes from home eliminated barriers (including childcare and commuting) and empowered me to embark on a pathway I never thought was possible.  Along with the online format, the ability to enroll part-time was the ideal timeline and workload for our family. I found the assignments and class time to be the right balance of challenging and manageable.”
