Overview

Explore how people connect, collaborate and influence one another through communication. With coursework in interpersonal communication, public speaking, crisis communication and persuasive messaging, you’ll develop the skills to communicate strategically and lead effectively. You’ll also build in-demand skills like speaking, listening and writing – ranked top four skills needed for the workplace by the Society for Human Resource Management.

Build the skills needed to communicate ideas clearly, create shared understanding, collaborate with others and engage audiences in professional and personal settings—including in virtual and team-based environments.

About the Program:

Central Michigan University’s Communication program explores how people connect, create shared understandings, and communicate in a variety of environments. You’ll study communication theory while developing practical skills in public speaking, interpersonal communication and persuasive messaging. Guided by experienced faculty, you’ll learn how communication shapes relationships, organizations and communities. Courses in the program may include:

This program prepares you to communicate effectively in professional environments where collaboration, leadership and strategic messaging are essential. Online students have access to CMU’s Presentation Skills Center, which offers virtual consultations to help them develop skills in public speaking, debate, group presentations, sales pitches, interviewing, and more.
